Carlos Kremer, Mixed Martial Arts Announcer

Today’s guest is MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fight announcer Carlos Kremer.  Carlos is a graduate from UC Davis & a graduate from OCS. During his time with the Marines as Captain, Carlos received two Navy Achievement medals. He also held the position of Series Commander. Only 5% of all officers have been awarded this rank. While in the Marines Carlos was nicknamed “The Master Motivator” due to his accomplishments & his positive demeanor.

Currently, Carlos makes announcing for Mixed Martial Arts an important part of his life. He also hosts a weekly radio show called “Carlos Kremer Kick Ass Radio.” Also as president of Kremer Insurance, Carlos insures various local gyms as well as sponsors MMA fighters Bellator pro Sergio Roos & undefeated fighter Zac Savage.

Jessica Laycock

Our guest, Jessica Laycock, is a District woman firing a legal challenge to the ambiguous marijuana laws in the nation’s capital. As of Feb. 26, 2015 marijuana was made legal in D.C.—sort of. On April 20, an annual day of pro-pot advocacy, Laycock and seven other protesters were arrested during a demonstration in which activists gave joints to congressional staffers to push for marijuana-friendly federal laws.

Possession of marijuana is illegal on federal land, but protesters say they strategically held the event on District land, where possession of up to two ounces of pot is legal and small amounts can be given away free. The circumstances of her case highlight the clash between federal pot laws and looser local regulations in a city where small amounts of marijuana are allowed.

Blue Star families is a non-profit that supports military families and helps them with deal with having a member of the family in the service and provides free resources, services, and opportunities to more than 1.5 million military family members—making military life more sustainable.

Jennifer has been an Air Force spouse for 19 years, and has volunteered and worked in a variety of roles that help to support military families. Military spouse underemployment is an issue that she has experienced first-hand due to the 10 military moves she, her husband and daughter have made. After years of reinventing herself at each duty station – working as a speech-language pathologist, teacher, university professor and researcher – she joined Blue Star Families, an organization that fully understands these challenges.

Happy Mother’s Day everyone! While Maria is celebrating Mother’s Day with her family, Valencia Mohammed, a former newspaper journalist, and myself will welcome guest Attorney Brandon L. Wyatt Esq., a decorated army combat solider and disabled veteran, and the National Policy Advisor of the Weed for Warriors Project (WFWP) . Weed For Warriors Project is the largest veteran advocacy group in the world actively trying to raise awareness about cannabis and its potential use as an alternative to many of the pharmaceuticals championed by not only the VA, but by almost all research driven hospitals like Johns Hopkins.

Weed For Warriors Project was started in the San Francisco Bay Area by an OEF United States Marine Corps Veteran who found relief from his service connected disabilities through medical marijuana and the fellowship of other like-minded Veterans within the cannabis community. With the help of organizations like SANTA CRUZ VETERANS ALLIANCE, Weed for Warriors Project is able to provide Veterans with medical marijuana information, a safe place to fellowship with other Veterans and safe access to free medicine with proof of service/ current medical recommendation.
