Thursday, July 10th, 2014 – Health & Wellness

Pacific HerbsDoctor of Oriental Medicine and licensed acupunturist and herbalist, Cathy Margolin visits with Maria about the science behind Chinese herbs and what they can do to help with our wellness as well as our disorders.

Dr. Margolin shares that the single worst choice that we make here in the United States regarding our health and wellness is our poor eating habits.  Not just the choices of our foods but the manner in which we consume them.  She speaks of mindful eating.  Being in the moment, relishing the nourishment, taking the time to enjoy what we are ingesting – much like they do in France, for example.

She also talks about the company that she created, Pacific Herbs, which offers a collection of natural herbal remedies for pain and issues ranging from menopause to PMS.  As well as treatment for chronic pain such as backaches, headaches, and arthritic pain.

The herbs have a synergistic effect and have been used for centuries, making it a reliable product to relieve pain without creating an addition or any other side effects.

Suggested use is 1/2 teaspoon daily and Dr. Margolin suggests that the product is consumed according to your situational need, in other words, to address a certain malady and then regain balance.

latinocaucus_logoToday, Tuesday, July 8th, members of the California Latino Legislative Caucus toured Naval Base Ventura County, where undocumented, unaccompanied children are being held.  They visited to see the facility and the conditions that the children are experiencing while being detained.

They held a conference call shortly thereafter.  On this call were Senate President pro Tem-elect, Kevin de Leon; Senator Richardo Lara, Caucus Chair; Senator Norma Torres; Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins: Assembly Member Luis Alejo, Vice Chair; Assembly Member Lorena Gonzales; State Senator Lou Correa; State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson.

We’re hoping you had a Happy 4th of July!

indexHere’s hoping that you were able to enjoy our holiday with family and friends and to honor and celebrate our country’s birth.  I was fortunate that my three sons were able to join me for most of the holiday weekend and we had a ball!  I feel so fortunate that my 20-something children are in the area and make themselves available for us to be together as a family.

My daughter, my youngest child, is living in another country since last month so that has been quite the adjustment for me, her mother because in her entire life, we’ve only ever been 60 minutes away from one another.  We were able to Skype and text over the holiday and she was quite homesick on the 4th because of what she was missing by being away from the United States.

Thank you for the honor of keeping our website alive and our podcasts listened to.  With much gratitude, Maria
